LAGAWE,
Ifugao -- The SangguniangPanlalawigan has approved
the creation of a task force to look into
reports of illegal gambling
proliferating in the province,
The
task force will conduct intelligence reporting; apprehension and filing of
charges against gamblers.
This
cropped up when the SP headed by Vice Gov. Pedro Mayam-o invited provincial
police chief Senior Supt. Lawrence Mombael, to update them on the peace and
order situation of the province wherein gambling was one
major topic.
Mayam-o
said that Mombael mentioned three
municipalities namely Lagawe, Lamut and Kiangan where gambling was rampant.
“As
officials of the province, we have to act on this in order to minimize and
eventually eradicate this illicit activity which we believe has some relations
to crimes such as robbery/theft and crimes against persons,” Mayam-o said.
Mayam-o
pressed the inclusion of the private sector in the task force which can help
the local government achieve the objective.
In
a separate interview with Mombael, he said his men needed the support of local
officials for them to eradicate all forms of gambling in towns.
They
(task force) cannot fully implement their duties if the local officials do not
support them, he said.
