BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan on Wednesday said
remedial measures were in place at the Irisan dumpsite to prevent another trash
slide with the onset of the typhoon season.
The mayor said concerned offices cleared water
passageways and drainage canals around the site to prevent water buildup and
safeguard the remaining wastes still deposited in the area.
He said covering wastes to prevent water from seeping in
will also be undertaken along with other safety measures to ensure these will
not cascade.
The mayor said other safety be instituted by the city
engineering office and the city building and architecture office while the city
is waiting for the completion of the documentary requirements preparatory to
the implementation of the restoration work for the collapsed retaining wall to
be funded by the P80 million approved by Malacanang recently through the Dept.
of Public Works and Highways.
He said the city is currently completing the procedural
and documentary requirements with the DPWH and will be ready to award the
project to a qualified contractor once the process has been completed.
He said the city’s bids and awards committee decided to
employ the fastest means allowed by law to award the project so that it will be
implemented and completed soon.
