BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan has cautioned the public against text messages circulated at odd hours containing his alleged announcements of class suspensions saying these are not true.

The mayor said his policy is to make the announcements at exactly 5 a.m. and not in any other hour of day.

Text pranks containing the mayor’s alleged pronouncement of class suspensions circulated early Tuesday evening last week at the onset of the monsoon rains caused by typhoon “Gener.”

The mayor said one university executive called him to verify if the text announcement was true.

“It’s unlikely for us to make the announcement at 6 p.m. because we can’t predict what the situation will be the following day,” the mayor said.

The mayor said it is not his practice to make the announcement at times other than 5 a.m. as it is the most appropriate time to gauge the weather.

This practice of the mayor has gained praises from the public for being prompt and considerate.

“We have to be precise.  We can’t be too early in making the announcement as the weather can change even with the PAGASA forecasts and we can’t be late at the same time as it will compromise the convenience and even health of the students,” the mayor said.
