LA
TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The Police Regional
Office Cordillera recently ordered strict enforcement of traffic rules and
regulations following rampant illegal parking violations among others that led
to traffic jams along highways here.
Chief
Supt. Benjamin Magalong, regional police director said traffic rules in this
town and nearby Baguio City will be strictly implemented with impounding of
vehicles which don’t adhere to road laws.
He
said it is about time motorists are disciplined recounting the times when
jeepney drivers particularly in the province used to be among those
disciplined.
The
issue came about when Board Member Rogelio Leon raised the problem of traffic
encountered along the highway after Km 5 until the Baguio City boundary due to
vehicles parked along the highway for long periods of time.
Magalong
said they were doing their best but sometimes policemen were considerate and
trying to strike a balance.
But
often the leniency is abused. He added
their office kept enjoining jeepney associations to remind drivers to adhere to to traffic rules.
Meanwhile,
Magalong bared that
office has procured traffic gears
which will soon be available. The
80 sets of raincoats, traffic vests and rain boots were intended for Baguio and
Benguet police traffic officers.
