BAGUIO
CITY -- John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) will send the lone
Philippine delegate to Mexico City to attend a conference
dubbed “Step Into the Future VIII International
Conference on Sustainable Transport”.
Michelle Bacalla, JHMC marketing
manager, will attend the convention Sept. 30 to Oct. 4 sponsored by CTS Embarq
and Walk 2 with 22 delegates from different countries.
For one week, speakers worldwide
will share first hand experiences on how their cities improved quality of life
through implementation of sustainable mobility projects that helped transport
people safely, and how they crafted policies that enhanced air
quality and eventually, public health and safety.
It will also cover urban mobility to
decreasing urban heat and carbon footprint and ease effects of Climate Change.
This conference is aligned
with her Masters degree course in Urban Management at Benguet State University
(BSU) where she is working on her thesis on Pedestrianization, with
the intention of addressing issues on mobility in
Camp John Hay as a tourist destination, as well as assessing
economic and sound environmental conditions of the Camp as a potential Green
Destination.
JHMC
board of directors headed by Chairman Silvestre C. Afable, President and CEO
Jamie Eloise M. Agbayani and BCDA President and CEO Arnel P.
Casanova approved the grant after Bacalla presented her thesis
proposal.
This paves
the way to the realization of Agbayani’s vision for a more efficient
and empowered workforce.
Michelle
is the daughter of Michael and Arlene Bacalla.
Her
father was the jazz pianist of Marksmen band who had gigs at
The Halfway House ( a popular club inside Camp John Hay) during the
late 70’s.
She
joined JHMC in 2010 after earning her BA Tourism degree at the University of
Baguio.
