Improved Bontoc roads boost tourism, economy

BONTOC, Mountain
Province – Two roads in the central of this capital town are now boosting
economic activities and tourism in the province.
Rep. MaximoDalog,
local and provincial Highways officials led by engineers John T. Marquez and
Charles C. Sokoken recently inaugurated thenewly opened Bontoc-Cadre and
PC-Barracks roads here.
In his message, Dalogsaid
the road from the Sta. Rita Church going around the college to the junction
going to Eyeb is expected to be concreted before year end.
Dalog earlier pledged
concreting of all roads at the central
part of Bontoc during groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrading of the Bontoc-Cadre
Road.
Marquez meanwhile said
he was thankful concreting of access roads within central Bontoc was
implemented before his retirement from the agency.
Funds for upgrading of
the Bontoc-Cadre Road were sourced out from the CY 2010 and 2011 Regular Fund
and were contracted with several construction firms with the provincial
district engineering office as implementing agency.
The rehabilitation of
the PC-Barracks Road which starts from the entrance of the Barracks compound
along the Bontoc-Cadre Road going up to the basketball court of said compound
were sourced out from the CY 2011 Regular Infrastructure Fund and from savings
of completed projects.
The road will provide
safer access to school children of the Barracks Day Care Center and in
compliance to the department’s program in making roads gender-responsive.

Matib,said the completed projects would contribute to a better Mountain
Province through safe, better and easier access roads.
