Bontoc tops provincial meet; trainors cited

BONTOC,
Mountain Province -- For 2012 Provincial Meet champion Bontoc
district, Education supervisorRosendoCacap of the Mountain Province-
Department of Education credits Bontoc’s feat to the presence of
trainors in the capital town.
Bontoc
garnered 518.5 points having ruled in events- football, arnis, taekwondo-
in both elementary and secondary level and championed lawn tennis in the
secondary level in the recently held athletic meet held October 25-28. The
Bontoc athletes shared the championship on lawn tennis in the
elementary level; and badminton with 2nd runner–up Bauko1, basketball
with 4rth runner-up Sadanga, chess with Bauko 2, table tennis with Sabangan and
volleyball with 8th place Natonin in the secondary level.
Sabangan
came in 1st runner up with 276 points closely followed by Bauko 1 of
271.5 points. Tadian 1 and Sadanga came in with 233.5 and 225 points
respectively.
Sabangan got
the championship in the badminton in the elementary level it shared with
Tadian 1 and swimming in the elementary level with 3rd runner-up Sadanga.
Sabanganboxers ruled the championship event in boxing in the
secondary level it shared with 10th place Paracelis in the
elementary level. Sabangan also bagged the swimming events in the
secondary level it shared with Sadanga and table tennis it shared with
Bontoc further ruling the sipa event.
Sagada which
came 9th place ruled baseball in both elementary and secondary levels and soft
ball it shared with 6th place Besao who also bagged gymnastics in both
elementary and secondary levels. Sagada ruled the MAPEH event it
shared with Bauko1.
The
recent provincial meet gathered some 2000 athletes from 12
districts of the province. The Dep-Ed provided the equipment
and food and uniforms for the athletes with monetary support
from the Provincial government apart from the Educational Support Fund
(ESF) from Local Government Units (LGUs).
In same
development, lack of equipment is an issue in some schools.
Bangaan
National High School of Sagada district principal Patrick Pooten
said lack of equipment is a major challenge among
school athletes in their respective schools.
