BAGUIO CITY – Campaign violations
of some political candidates here will be dealt with, the Commission on
Elections said.
This, after Comelec officials
said they noticed violations on campaign posting areas of candidates
campaigning for election come May 13.
According to Comelec assistant
regional election director Reddy Balabrar, he noticed some violations of
candidates who started posting their campaign materials last March 29.
“There were materials that were
put scattered in different areas,” the lawyer said.
Balabrar added they also received
reports of concerned citizens about campaign materials posted anywhere that
were supposed to be put in designated areas.
Balabrar says that there were
designated places in every barangay mostly in public places where campaign
materials should be posted.
Since Baguio City has 128
barangays, there were also 128 designated places areas for posting.
Barangay Irisan was added two
designated areas because it has the biggest population so all in all it has a
total of 130 designation areas for campaign materials.
Comelec officials said they will
continue going around the city to check campaign materials if they were put in
the right areas.
If there are proven violators of
the Comelec rules, they will be subjected to sanctions into election offenses
and disqualifications, he said.
Meanwhile, Department of
Environment and Natural Resources officials said campaign materials nailed on
trees are prohibited.
