BAGUIO CITY – The city
welcomes home Baguio boy Associate Justice Mario Victor Leonen of the Supreme
Court of the Philippines as he gives his message during the 104th Charter Day celebration, today, Sept
1, at the Baguio Convention Center.
A special performance before his
introduction by Councilor Elmer Datuin shall be done; as with a dance
performance by the Baguio Metamorphosis group.
Earlier,
the Philippine Military Academy Marching Band leads the processional and entry
of colors as Bishop Carlito Cenzon and the Maryknoll Choir leads the charter
prayer and doxology.
The Saint Louis
University Choral and Center for Culture and Arts performs “Steadfast Service
Starts with You,” and “Magsimula Ka,” before Department of Tourism-CAR Regional
Director Purificacion Molintas acknowledges the special guests present.
Mayor Mauricio
Domogan welcomes the attendees while Rep. Nicasio Aliping, Jr. delivers his
message; anchored on the theme, “Steadfast Service to the City.”
The Outstanding
Philippine Soldier (TOPS) awardees, Col. Romeo Brawner, Jr. and Major Daneck
Dang-awan shall be honored, together with P/Supt. Edgar Alan Okubo as Country’s
Outstanding Police Officers in Service (COPS).
Baguio
Centenarians shall be honored as well, with the song, “Builders of Baguio Song
as performed by the Saint Louis University band.
The six 2013
outstanding citizens; Pines City National High School Principal Dr. Rachel Bugtong, BB-PICAG Founder Oscar
Cadelina, Baguio Country Club General Manager Anthony De Leon, Optometrist
Marcelino Dizon, Jr., Eco-Composting Receptacle developer Fred Fangonon, and
Broadcaster Henedino Luzano, as
selected by the Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio shall also be
honored.
The message by
Associate Justice Leonen follows.
Vice-Mayor
Daniel Farinas gives his message and closing remarks, after which the civic
parade participated in by city officials, national line agencies, schools,
senior citizens, veterans, religious sector, foreign communities, civic groups,
business establishments, private sector and floats.
Other activities are: Baguio Day photo contest and exhibit at the
lower basement of SM Baguio; while arnis enthusiasts shall see action at the
Kampeon ng Lahing Pinoy at the University of the Cordilleras gym.
In the evening of Sept. 1, there
shall be a “unity ball” at the Baguio Convention Center, with a dance
exhibition for attendees. A grand fireworks display shall go on at 7PM, at SM City
Baguio and Melvin Jones grandstand.
At 1 p.m. Sept. 1, the
Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) celebrates the 10th annual HRT weekend at the SM
Atrium.
The Miss Baguio
pre-pageant shall be done simultaneously at the Crown Legacy Hotel, and
coronation night on Sept. 7 at the convention center.
On Sept. 2, the
Association of Barangay Kagawads with the theme, “Recognizing the Barangay
Officials for Service and Performance,” goes on at the Multi-purpose hall, City
hall.
Job seekers will
welcome the conduct of the Public Employment Services Office jobs fair on Sept.
4 at the Baguio Convention Center.
On Sept. 5,
cakes depicting heritage structures and tourist destinations in Baguio shall be
showcased at SM Atrium. HRAB Culinary competitions, trade fair and seminars
shall be done at the same venue and at the Baguio Country Club. Closing
ceremonies will be at the CAP center, Camp John Hay.
Other activities
are scheduled until the month of October.
