Barangay poll day declared holiday

President Benigno Aquino III has declared October 28 a special non-working holiday to pave the  way for the barangay elections.

Aquino has signed Proclamation 656 last week, declaring the election day a nationwide holiday.

"It is important to give the people the fullest opportunity to participate in the said elections and exercise their right to vote," the Proclamation said.

On Monday, Malacañang announced that there will be at least 18 non-working holidays next year.
