North Luzon fair shows growth in science tech

The
five-day 2013 North Luzon Cluster Science and Technology Fair and Exhibit
opened Monday at the Benguet State University in La Trinidad, Benguet on the
theme “Science, Technology and Innovation: The Road Towards a SmarTer North
Luzon”.
Regional director Julius Caesar Sicat of the Department of Science and
Technology said Day 1 focused on science and technology exhibits at the BSU
enclosed gym, a techno bazaar at the covered court and interactive exhibits
(PAG-ASA mobile planetarium, Project NOAH) at the Engineering Building of the
university.
The day opened with ribbon-cutting, followed by a press conference and
end with a seminar on the DOST Smarter Philippines Program and fellowship
night, Sicat revealed.
Tuesday’s schedule opened with a robotics competition – line robot race
for the tertiary level and microcontroller-based systems in the open category
at the BSU covered court.
Also on tap were the 2013 Northern Luzon on-the-spot essay writing
contest.
The Wednesday morning program at the Gladiola Hall was a seminar on
“Metal Indus try Clustering: An Avenue for Development and Progress” and
“Alternative Technologies Toward Sustainable Mining Industry.”
In the afternoon., the topic shifted to “Food Innovation Technologies
(vacuum packaging machine, water retort, immersion freezer,, freeze dryer,
spray dryer, vacuum dryer, vacuum evaporator), “Addressing Malnutrition:
Complementary Food Technologies” and mechanics of writing a research paper/investigatory
project.
Seminar topics on Thursday at the CTE Function Hall wereon new trends in
math teaching and intellectual property rights.
The closing and awards ceremony was held
2 p.m. Friday at the BSU enclosed
gym.
