Town mayor’s aide nabbed for extortion

SANTIAGO, Isabela  – An employee of the mayor’s office here was arrested for allegedly posing as a police officer to extort money from a bar owner in Echague town April 19.

Benedict Alipio, 39, was collared after he was caught receiving P500 from Elsa Perez, 54, in Barangay Soyung, city police chief Inspector Gerald Gamboa said.

Alipio, an aide of Mayor Joseph Tan, reportedly used the name of Gamboa to collect funds purportedly for a project of the police official.
