CITY -- The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) launched a new
project to portray real image or actual visualization of Philippine
heroes as known in their locality.
A flagship project of the NCCA dubbed “Bayaning Bayan: Sa ating mga katutubong Epiko
Mito at Alamat,” is geared
to use of visual arts and paintings in building imagery of local heroes
in Sagisag Kulturang Pilipinas, the country’s registry of icons.
NCCA chairman Felipe De Leon Jr. said in line
with its mandate of developing
culturally-oriented researches in basic education, the NCCA aims to develop and
establish clear images and visualizations of Philippine myths, epics and
folklore characters in the Sagisag Kultura through this project to be
spearheaded by NCCA’s Philippine Cultural Education Plan (PCEP).
De Leon urged Filipino artists
nationwide to a painting competition
that involves an art piece that will give real face and identity of a local
hero. This is open to all Filipino painters, 18 years old and above.
Participants should submit actual art work and
complete documentary requirements which
include accomplished entry form, notarized affidavit enclosed in the entry, one
1x1 inch photo of the artist, photocopy of birth certificate or baptismal
certificate, resume and short description about the artwork that answers the
questions - why the hero was chosen,
what bravery or heroic deed the artist wants to portray in the artwork and
where did he/she base interpretation of the traits of the hero?
PCEP director Joseph Cristobal said 30
winning pieces will be selected from the entries, and all will win P30,000
each.
The winning paintings will be reproduced and
showcased in exhibits. They will also be used as materials on instructional
materials such as textbooks, teaching- learning manuals, and multimedia materials
for cultural education.
