BAGUIO
CITY – Contractors and workers of government infrastructure projects would soon
be mandated to hasten work so constituents won’t be aggravated like due to
heavy traffic as a result of sloppy work.
An ordinance is now being made by the city
council mandating 16 hours of work in construction of civil works of roads and
other public utilities such as drainage systems, sewerage lines, water lines,
communication and power lines that traverses and passes a public road.
The proposed ordinance authored by Councilor
Isabelo Cosalan Jr. is aimed at speeding up the slow implementation and
completion of public infrastructure projects.
Under the measure, all project implementors
and contractors of public facilities and utilities shall be required to
implement a two-shift working schedules or a 16-man hour workday, six days a
week, to facilitate and expedite the completion of projects, especially those
at the central business district.
Cosalan said delays in public works are
perceived by the people as a display of insensitivity, irresponsibility and
inefficiency of delivery of public service by project implementers and
contractors.
