Igorot Global Organization (IGO), an
international association of Igorots, launched Cordillera-wide Folklore
Documentation Contest purposely to record and preserve unpublished Cordilleran
folklores.
Said project focuses
on the theme “Cordillera Folklore: Igorot treasures for the worldwide to see.”
In his invitation
letter distributed to all secondary schools in the region, Dr. Gaston P.
Kibiten, chairperson of the board of trustees of IGO scholarship program,
said the contest is open to all grades
nine and 10 high school students in the Cordillera region.
Interested participants will gather folk
stories of any kind (legends, fables, tales, stories for entertainment or
during funerals) including pomes, riddles, songs, etc. by transcribing oral
literature from storytellers in their communities.
Entries must be
written in vernacular and translated in English in collaboration with a
teacher.
The students may work
individually or in group in documenting and writing the story and they may
submit up to three entries, the letter further explained.
Kibiten emphasized,
“All entries must be original and previously unpublished.”
All entries can be
sent thru mail anytime until January 30, 2016 and shall be addressed to Dr.
Gaston P. Kibiten, Research and Extension Office, Saint Louis University,
