Truck falls down Halsema Road; driver, passenger hurt

ATOK, Benguet – A driver and his passenger
were injured here Tuesday around 6 pm. when the Elf truck they were riding in
fell down the Halsema Highway at km 52 and landed on a barangay road below
Investigation
disclosed the truck was driven by the owner identified as Joey Donato Apilis,
27, farmer, with two passengers identified as Simeon AgmaliwTacio, 28 and
Johnwell Donato Apilis, 15, all residents of Tukucan, Tinoc, Ifugao.
Tacio said they were
heading home to Tinoc in the truck loaded with 50 sacks of chicken dung. They
dropped by at Saddle, Caliking for dinner and drink Ginebra San Miguel. Later,
as they were about to pass the intersection of the Halsema Highway and Barangay
Road going to Uyosan, the driver failed to control the steering wheel of the
truck causing it to veer to the middle of the intersecting road until it landed
on the barangay road going to Uyosan. As a result, both Apilises were injured
and brought to Atok District Hospital,
Sayangan, Paoay, Atok for medical treatment. Tacio refused to be brought to the
hospital.
