Valuing basic skills on emergency, ERC /Kawan

Gearing oneself with skill is an advantage over things, a fact that is applicable to most real life situations. Obtaining skills however entails time, effort truthfulness and dedication in learning the varied procedures.
One of the goals of our government is to extend to us proper trainings towards the basic skills in dealing common emergency cases within the family, the community, the workplace, and to any institution to where it may possibly happen.
Determining such concern, the government has delegated and organized personnel from the national level called the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) down to the barangay level called the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (BDRRMC) has been established.
As an activity for 2016, the municipality of Kabayan, Benguet through the former designated Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (MDRRMO) Engr. Eugene Daoal conducted several trainings on Emergency Responders Course (ERC) along its components: First Aid, Bandaging, Splinting, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Proper Carries and Spine Board Management that were directed within the different requesting barangays. The training groups were spearheaded by the MDRRMC training officer of Kabayan Dr. Felix Mangaltag Jr. with the assistance of the ERC trained nurses hired under the National Deployment Project (NDP) deployed in the municipality of Kabayan and trained Local Government personnel. Positive responses dominate after the engagement of the trainings and that more participants are expected to attend in the incoming trainings this year.

Presence of medicinal plants in a certain locality is much like having a gold mine. “Kawan” (Astible rivularis Buch.-Ham ex.D. Don)  is one of many medicinal plants found in Barangay Tawangan one of 13 barangays in Kabayan, Benguet.
This medicinal plant is known of its potential in dealing with diarrhea (most especially in severe stage) and dysentery that could be fatal if not dealt with on time.
The whole part of the plant could be utilized in obtaining medical sources from roots to its leaves. Decoction of the leaves and or the roots is done for the cure of the said illness Galvez (2015).

Additional technique done most specially in severe cases of diarrhea and dysentery is by taking in concentrated juice of the said plant that could be extracted from the roots.
