I want to start this
column by making it known to the readers of Northern Philippine Times that I am
not the usual “traditional doctor” of clinics or hospital. I was trained in
complementary health care under the mentorship of the late Dr. John R.
Christopher of U.S.A., the founder of the College Of Natural Healing in the
State of Utah. From there, I pursued advance training through online education
on homeopathy and nutritional healing. And I am an active member of the
Integrated Naturopathic Association For Asia And The Pacific Inc.
Therefore, whatever
information and or medical data that may be encountered here about health
issues are totally based on facts and supported by actual medical and
nutritional researches, various medical sources like – Medical Journal of
Medicine, health books authored by known health and medical practitioners abroad.
To name a few and I want to acknowledge them here:
Dr. Ray Strand, M.D. -
author of two famous books, “What Your Doctor Doesn’t Know About Nutritional
Medicine May Be Killing You” and “Death By Prescription”
Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D.
- author of “Spontaneous Healing” and “Eating Well for Optimum Health”
Dr. Reginald B.
Cherry, M.D. - author of series of books “God’s Pathway to Healing”
Dr. Henry G. Bieler,
M.D. - author of “Food is Your Best Medicine”
Dr. Harvey Diamond,
M.D. and Marilyn Diamond – authors of “Fit for Life”
Dr. Don Colbert, M.D.
– author of “What You Don’t Know May Be Killing You”
Dr. James F. Bach,
M.D. & Phyllis A. Balch, C.N.C. –authors of “Prescription For Nutritional
Healing
Dr. Douglas Lobay, N.D. – author of “Unlimited
Health”

Now, let us proceed to
the pathway to natural healing. At this point I would like to emphasize and
give this important advice: Don’t practice self-medication.
Yes, you read it
right! Many are not aware they are doing more harm to the body by seeking just
a relief for their body pains. The body pains are just symptoms telling us
something is wrong in our body. By self-medication, the relief we achieve from
the over-the-counter drugs is putting our internal organs to over work.
As a result, a more
serious and chronic disease is what we get. Have you ever thought why there are
many cases of kidney failure, liver disease even cancer among the younger
generation? You guessed it right. The bad practice of self-medication is among
the many factors.
***
I mentioned chronic
disease is the result of many factors, but in general Dr. Bieler mentioned
three basic conclusions as to the cause and cure of disease. Let me quote him…
“The first is that the
primary cause of disease is not germs. Rather, I believe that disease is caused
by toxemia which results in cellular impairment and breakdown, thus paving the
way for the multiplication and onslaught of germs.
“The second conclusion
is that in almost all cases, the use of drugs in treating patients is harmful.
Drugs often cause serious side effects, and sometimes even create new disease.
The dubious benefits they afford the patient are at best temporary (underscore
supplied by me for emphasis)…
“My third conclusion is that disease can be
cured through the proper use of correct foods. This statement may sound
deceptively simple, but I have arrived at it only after an intensive study of a
highly complex subject: colloid and endocrine chemistry.”
“My conclusions are
based on experimental and observational results, gathered through years of
successfully treating patients. Occasionally I have resorted to the use of
drugs in emergency situations but those times have been rare.”
***
Indeed, I find the
foregoing conclusions of Dr. Bieler a revelation and truth about disease. His
more than 50 years of general practice healing his patients without surgery and
just using nutritional foods is unparalleled in the field of medicine and was
never questioned even until his death in 1975.
Allow me to share to
readers and would be followers of this column a quotation I borrowed from Dr.
Bieler’s book, “Food is your best medicine.”
The message behind it,
I hope, will open the minds of many about drugs and self-medication.
As Carl Linnarus said: “To live by medicine is to
live horribly.” More about natural
healing connection in the next issue. Stay healthy.
