TUGUEGARAO CITY -- A multimillion-peso bridge project that would link four municipalities in Cagayan province starting from the town proper of Piat is now underway, the Dept. of Public Works and Highways said.

DPWH announced Wednesday it is currently implementing the P107.7-million Aguib-Dugayong Bridge project.
The bridge would cross Cagayan River connecting Piat town proper to barangays in the municipalities of Rizal, Sto. NiƱo and Tuao.
According to DPWH Region 2 director Melanio Briosos, the multibillion-peso project would provide ease in traveling to and from the southern part of Cagayan Province.
He said the bridge that spans at 386.5-lineal meters would start from Barangay Aquib to Dugayong in Piat, Cagayan. The construction has started in July, he added.
“The project, which is being built with 19 spans, 130-lineal meter approach on both ends, is now 16 percent completed and is aimed to be opened to motorists before the end of 2018,” said Briosos.
Once the all-weather bridge is completed, Briosos said travel time of pilgrims, both foreign and local, to the Our Lady of Piat would be reduced.
This mega bridge would also help increase farm ventures for the productivity and profitability of farmers in the area, Briosos said.
