BAGUIO CITY -- Kennon
Road will now be accessible to private vehicles beginning on Valentines Day
(Feb. 14) but it cannot be used if you are going down from this summer capital
to the lowlands.
According to
the Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, vehicles can
only use the historic road if they are going up to Baguio or areas along the
way.
Other routes
from Baguio to the lowlands are Marcos and Naguillan roads including the newly
opened Asin Road.
Kennon Road
will be re-opened 6 a.m. from Feb. 22 to March 4 for private vehicles and
motorists coming up, but the residents of Benguet particularly Tuba town are
granted right to use both of lanes.
Kennon Road
can only be used by tourists until March 10 when the Panagbenga Festival in
Baguio is finished.
Panagbenga
started Feb.
The Dept. of
Public Works and Highways closed Kennon Road some months ago to rehabilitate it
after many portions were destroyed as a result of typhoons and landslides.
