Man, 61 buried alive in Ilocos

STA. LUCIA, Ilocos Sur- A 61-year-old farmer was buried alive here Tuesday afternoon in Barangay Bani.

Police identified the victim as Pedrito C. Bal-ut Sr., resident of Bani.

Based on report reaching Sta. Lucia PNP station, the victim was buried alive by erosion.

Police said the victim and his companions Peejay Bal-ut and Alvin Togupen were digging a deep well in the barangay when the soil eroded. 

The sudden cave-in of soil buried the victim alive. 

The victim’s companions were reportedly shocked to see their companion being buried alive but could do nothing to rescue him.

Responding personnel of municipal risk reduction office rushed the victim to Ilocos Sur District Hospital-Sta. Lucia for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr Jizzle Javillonar.
