BONTOC, Mountain Province -- The provincial government of Mountain Province cancelled the staging of the 16th Lang-ay Festival due to the threat of the deadly novel corona virus acute respiratory disease known as Covid-19.
The Lang-ay Festival committee and technical working group issued the decision on Wednesday, following a resolution by the Mountain Province Provincial Health Board requesting cancelation of all activities of the week-long festival slated first week of April as precautionary measure to ensure safety of the province’s constituents against the dreaded disease.
Based on findings of the Provincial Health Board and initial assessment of the Local Government Unit on prevention and containment of the disease including providing isolation rooms, manpower and facilities, current resources may not be adequate to address possible cases of the disease in the province.
The Dept. of Health also strongly advised the public to avoid attending and organizing events that draw a crowd following confirmed cases of Covid-19 in parts of the country.
“Though Mountain Province remains free of Covid-19, there is an urgent need to intensify measures to prevent the spread of the disease in the province. For an institution that promotes the utmost well-being of its people, we have to listen to pieces of advise of right authorities and lead in the implementation,” Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. said.
Meanwhile, the celebration of the province’s Foundation Day will push though as agreed,
This year’s celebration will start with an ecumenical service and will be followed by a simple program at the Provincial Plaza in the morning of April 7.
