Weapons, explosives found in NPA camp
TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Police found an abandoned New
People’s Army camp and found several war materials and explosives on Feb. 9
here in Barangay Bagumbayan after concerned residents reported this to
authorities.
Based on reports
submitted to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Ronald O. Lee, joint
operatives provincial Police Mobile Force Co., Provincial Intelligence Unit and
Special Action Force found five 40 mm cartridges, six grenade rifles with canister; 19
electrical blasting caps; two dynamite gel; 22 meters electrical wire and two
detonator battery packs.
Also found were NPA documents and personal belongings.
Two trained dogs were used to sniff for explosive devices.
The encampment was dismantled and all items brought to Kalinga provincial police office.

Father, son drown in Cagayan River in motorbike crash
CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela – The bodies of a 44-year-old man and his 19-year-old son were retrieved Monday at the Cagayan River in Santa Maria town, Isabela province, the police said.
Rescuers discovered the bodies of Roberto Deray Sr. and his son, Roberto Jr., two days after their motorcycle fell into the river while they were heading home to Barangay Catabayungan in Cabagan town.
The police said the father was drunk while driving the motorcycle and negotiating a slippery road. His son and wife were riding on the back of the motorcycle driver.
The investigators said the wife was rescued and survived the incident.

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – Police arrested over 45 violators and confiscated 118 firearms since the implementation of the nationwide Commission on Elections gun ban last Jan. 9, police reported here Monday.
Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Peralta, Ilocos police director, said the arrest of suspects and confiscation of firearms were part of intensified police operations to assure the public police in the region are serious in campaign against unregistered firearms that could be used during the election period.
“We also ensure that our police remains apolitical. I have ordered the reassignment of 87 PRO1 personnel with relatives vying for a political post and transferred chiefs of police who have been in their post for more than a year to avoid familiarity. Our police personnel were properly deployed to sufficiently man 325 Commission on Elections checkpoints that operate 24/7,” he said.
He said a total of 83 firearms were confiscated or surrendered while 37 persons were arrested by Pangasinan police.
Some 30 firearms were seized while five persons were nabbed by La Union police.
A total of 38 firearms were also confiscated while two persons were arrested by Ilocos Sur police while 15 firearms and four persons were seized by Ilocos Norte police.
This, while four firearms were confiscates while four persons were apprehended by the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit.
Five firearms were surrendered to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 1.
A total of 277 assorted firearms were also deposited by gun owners in the region for safekeeping.
Illegal lumber seized in Nueva Ecija town

CABANATUAN
CITY — Illegal lumber with an estimated value of P600,000 was intercepted in
Nueva Ecija on Dec. 31.
The forest product was loaded in a truck intercepted along the highway in Barangay Joson, Carranglan town, according to a report received by Nueva Ecija police director Col. Rhoderick Campo.
The town police launched an operation after receiving information that a vehicle loaded with illegal lumber would pass through the area.
The driver of the vehicle refused to pull over when it was flagged down by the authorities.
Jomer Deteques and his helper Jayson Maniquiz were arrested following a brief chase.

Bauko truck driver shot dead in Atok
ATOK, Benguet -- A truck
driver died instantly after unidentified gunmen shot him early Tuesday morning
here at km. 28 in Barangay Caliking. Police
identified the fatality as Crisanto Pias Kiblasen, a resident of Barangay
Sadsadan, Bauko, Mountain Province.
According to
police, Kiblasen was traversing the road on board his forward truck together
with two companions and upon approaching km. 28 of Caliking, a brown Innova
blocked their way, forcing them to stop.
Investigation
showed three armed men alighted from the vehicle and ordered the passengers of
the truck to move out.
One of the
armed men shot Kiblasen and told the other passengers to flee from the scene.
Police said
an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack and
identify the assailants.
9 die as van slams into Cagayan town houses: Kalinga army reservist-driver charged

TUGUEGARAO CITY -- Nine people, including a baby girl, died on the spot and two others were injured after a wayward van driven by a soldier crashed into a row of houses in Barangay Zone 2, San Lorenzo, Lal-lo town in Cagayan evening of Jan. 5, police said.
Lal-lo police chief Maj. Jefferson Mukay identified the fatalities as Aladin Oñate, Duarte Oñate, Jeric Oñate, Eric Oñate, Charie Oñate, May-ann Martinez, Rosita Martinez, Elisa Martinez and Clarita Maganay.
The victims were gathered on the porch of a friend's house after attending a wake in Lal-lo when the accident happened at around 9:30 p.m.
Dan Vincent Domingo, the driver of the private van, and an unidentified passenger were brought to the Matilde Olivas District Hospital for medical attention.
The 42-year-old Domingo is a reservist of the Philippine Army stationed in Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
Domingo said they were headed to Luna, Apayao on board his van (CAL 1112) when he miscalculated a sharp curve and slammed into the house of Renato Dolores, the garage of Ashley Sajania, a parked SUV owned by Marshal Dolores and the victims.
The van also hit a parked tricycle.
Domingo is now facing multiple homicides and other charges.
