12 PNP officers awarded over shooting, standoff with Abra vice mayor’s men

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Twelve police officers were awarded for their accomplishments here on April 11 as an offshoot of a shooting incident that led to a standoff between men of vice mayor Jaja  Josefina Somera-Dizono of Pilar, Abra who refused to be inspected at a checkpoint.
    Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Ronald O. Lee led awarding of medals  assisted by the command group at the regional police headquarters here.
    Medalya ng Kadakilaan (PNP heroism medal) was awarded to Col. Benjamin Sembrano, deputy regional director for operations and Col. Maly Cua, Abra police director for leadership and supervision as Regional Special Operations Task Group commander and deputy commander respectively during negotiation process that resulted in peaceful surrender of 12 former military men and 14 pieces of assorted firearms in Abra.
    Meanwhile, Medalya ng Kagalingan (PNP medal of merit) was awarded to Lt. Col. Melencio Mina of Abra Provincial Police Office, Maj Janly Placido of PNP Special Action Force, Lt. Col. Prestah Antonio and Pat John Paul  Redelica of Regional Forensic Unit, Lt. Boyd Leeson Kis-ing and Pat. Frenzel Alvarez of Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 for exemplary performance and services during the negotiation process that resulted in the peaceful surrender of 12 former military men and 14 pieces of assorted firearms in Abra.
    Medalya ng Kasanayan (PNP efficiency medal) was also awarded to Lt. Col. Sover Gonting and Maj. Darriel Baclili of Regional Legal Service, Capt. Ronaldo Eslabra and Cpl. Joedel Jove of Pilar town police for services during investigation on  shooting incident that transpired in Pilar, Abra.
    Meanwhile, in Mountain Province, Besao town police helped an individual requiring medical attention.
    Police were on patrol at Barangay Kin-iway when they chanced upon a woman asking for help to aid her aunt who fell down the stairs and became unconscious.
    The police officers and volunteers hurriedly rushed the unconscious woman by carrying her with an improvised stretcher to the police mobile to rush her to Besao District Hospital for immediate medical attention.
    The patient is now in stable condition.
