BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Bontoc local government turned over a lot to the Dept. of Education where the Talubin Elementary School is located for education purposes.
In his message, TES principal Maurice Baniswal said March 22, 2022 was a historical day for Talubin ES- Doddo Campus as the DepEd now owns the lot.
Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey said the lot and structure being used as Talubin ES was historical as it served as the municipal office during the Spanish period as evident by Spanish bricks still intact.
The mayor said one of priority programs of his administration anchored of his vision “Bontoc on the rise” was support to the education sector.
A public teacher for years before entering politics, Odsey cited need for a conducive learning space for students.
He added that DepEd will no longer be a caretaker of the lot and structure, but as the owner. With this, he encouraged the recipients to be responsible stewards in using the facilities of the school and the lot for them to ensure that these shall last for the succeeding generations of learners to also enjoy.
“Structures will have significance if you, the students give life to its existence. This is by doing your best in your studies and being responsible individuals in the community. It is with high hopes that the turnover of the lot to the DepEd will inspire the students to do their best and bring honor to their school and the community,” the mayor said.
Vice Mayor Eusebio urged recipients to take good care of the lot and the structure.
In response, Engineer Domingo Banglo, Jr., who represented Schools Division Superintendent Sally Ullalim expressed the gratitude of the DepEd to the clan that donated the lot to the Bontoc local government  and Bontoc LGU for transferring the rights of ownership to DepEd- Talubin ES.
