Gunman in murder of La Union mayor falls

BALAOAN, La Union — The
alleged gunman in the killing of Mayor Alexander Buquing of Supiden, La Union
was arrested in this town Wednesday. Rosendo Sibayan, 29, a resident of
Barangay Butubut Norte, was arrested after a raid on his house yielded
ammunition for a Cal. 5.56 gun, Chief Insp. Silverio Ordinado Jr., La Union
police information officer, said.
The bullets
were brought to Camp Florendo for cross-matching of the bullet shells recovered
in Barangay Cadapli, Bangar, La Union where Buquing was ambushed.
Sibayan, who
is facing another murder case, was charged with two counts of murder by the
families of Buquing’s bodyguard Police Officer 2 Rolando Juanbe and driver
Bonifacio Depdepen.
Buquing’s
wife Wendy Joy, who was wounded in the ambush, said she would file murder and
attempted murder charges against Sibayan after the burial of her husband.
Wendy Joy has
taken her oath as the new mayor of Supiden.
Councilor
Mandy Adviento was named vice mayor.
Woman, contractor nabbed for adultery
BUGUIAS, Benguet – A
married woman and a contractor were caught at a boarding house here Monday in a
compromising situation by police after the former’s husband reported both to
police.
A police
report said the illicit couple was arrested at Barangay Natubleng, Buguias on
complaint of Cosme Moc-Eg Fausto, 47, farmer here of Polis, Amgalueygey.
Nabbed were
the complainant’s wife identified as Florencia Adonna Patil-Ao Fausto, 41 and
Edgardo Medina Gundran, 54, married, contractor and resident of Central West,
Buang, La Union.
Investigation
disclosed a call from a concerned citizen informed the suspects were sighted at
their rented boarding house located Natubleng.
Immediately
Buguias police with the complainant and their relatives proceeded to said
place. Upon arrival and with the help of the owner they located the suspects
who were incarcerated at the town jail.
Worker on motorbike falls down ravine; killed
KABUGAO, Apayao – A
construction worker died when the motorcycle he was driving fell down a 10-foot
ravine here 12 p.m. on Monday along the national road at Sitio Mayao, Musimut.
The victim
was identified as Edmar Peru, 34, married, resident of the area.
Investigation
disclosed the victim together with his co-laborer Reynold Sario went home to
have their lunch. The victim later left on board with his motorcycle to get
betel nut at Barangay Madatag.
Accordingly,
around 1:30 p.m., Reynold Sario noticed that the victim did not report for
work. Around 8 p.m., he discovered the motorcycle fell down the ravine. The
victim reportedly suffered head injury and was brought to Kabugao District
Hospital at Poblacion, but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending
physician.
Farmer nabbed for homicide
SABLAN, Benguet – A
farmer was nabbed here at Bosiw Pappa on Oct. 5 for homicide. Arrested was
Satur Dulnuan Bugtong, 37, single, of
Poblacion after judge Emmanuel Cacho Rasing of
RTC, First Judicial Region, Branch 10, La Trinidad, Benguet issued
warrant against him.
Welder found dead hanging in house
BAGUIO CITY – A welder
was found hanging with a cord tied on his neck at the second floor of a house
which was being renovated here.
Police said
the incident was reported to them by Brando Balajadia, head of barangay tanods that
day saying it happened here on Oct. 5 at no. 45 Ayala Street Barangay Sto.Niño,
Slaughter Compound.
The victim
was identified as Bernabe “Abe” Herano Aquino, 46, resident of Purok 6 Fairview
Extension.
Investigation
disclosed Maricel Atizado Tuzon, 21, tenant of the house was fetching water
from a drum when she noticed a cat climb the floor prompting her to look
up.
She saw the
victim hanging so she immediately reported the incident to punong barangay Camilo
Tacbas, owner of the house who immediately instructed his chief tanod to report
it at Police Station 2 Baguio.
Investigation
revealed the victim used a cable cord tied at the beam of the house then tied it
on his neck. The cadaver was brought to Bahay Damayan for autopsy.
Laborer
stabs chief tanod
CONNER, Apayao – A
laborer was arrested for stabbing the chief of tanods of Barangay Karikitan
here Monday around 9:30 p.m.
The victim
was identified as Francisco Catriz Sabedra, 52, married, who was reportedly
stabbed by Jefferson Sabedra Mensi, 30, single, both residents of the barangay.
Investigation
disclosed while the victim and tanod, Edmundo Amilagan were on their way to
their outpost for duty, they heard the suspect shouting from their farm.
The two
tanods confronted the suspect that resulted in a heated argument. The suspect
drew his knife and stabbed the victim. The other tanod pacified the suspect
with the help of their neighbor Freddie Pataras. The victim was stabbed on his
back and rushed to Conner District Hospital for treatment.
Responding
PNP personnel of Conner police arrested the suspect and brought him to the town
police station.
Woman nabbed for theft, illegal gun
ITOGON, Benguet – An
employee of a Minute Burger branch in nearby Baguio City was arrested here
Tuesday for taking P30,000 worth of sales of the establishment on Monday.
She is now
facing deeper trouble after a Cal. 45 handgun with seven bullets was found in
her residence here in Upper Mangga, Tuding.
A police
report said lawyer Nelson Valdez Gayo filed complaint for theft against his
employee identified as Liziel Moreno Planco, 30, single.
In his
complaint, Gayo said Planco failed to remit the amount from the Oct. 4 to 8
sales after taking the money without his approval. The establishment is located
at Shanum, corner Otek St.
Complainant
coordinated with Station 7 police station to locate the suspect, who failed to
appear for work Tuesday.
Following the
suspect’s arrest, a case for violation of Republic Act 10591 (illegal
possession of gun and ammunition) was filed against her.
Entrepreneur nabbed for lack of business permit
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet –
An entrepreneur was arrested here Monday for operating an establishment without
business permit. A police report said Amenola Rega Calanda, 34, married of
Barangay Pico was nabbed after warrant was issued against her by Lita Amylesha
D. Macaraeg, acting presiding judge of Municipal Trial Court of La Trinidad.
The judge set
bail of P2,000 for her temporary liberty.
Bail denied to minor in rape
BAGUIO CITY – A
16-year-old minor was arrested here at the Justice Hall Monday for rape.
Nabbed was
Vincent Justin Gatmaitan Dela Cruz, 16, of 65 E-New Lucban. This, after Ivan
Kim B. Morales, judge of Regional Trial Court, First Judicial Region, Branch
59, Baguio City issued warrant against him without bail.
The suspect
was issued an order of safekeeping pending trial and turned over at Social
Development Center here in Barangay Irisan.
Boy hit by car driven by LUELECO engineer
BAGUIO CITY – A boy was
injured when he was hit here along km 5, Marcos Highway by a vehicle driven by
Tristan Paul Balagot Taberdo, 26, engineer of La Union Electric Cooperative (LUELCO)
and resident of No. 25 Ballay, Bauang, La Union.
Police said
the incident happened Monday around 12 noon
involving
Taberdo’s Mitsubishi Adventure Wagon
with plate No. VCX-462,
The vehicle
was descending when victim Arnel Dumalilis Calado, male, 3, allegedly ran
across the road. The victim was brought by his mother Resalina Dumalilis Calado
and Taberdo to Baguio General Hospital
and Medical Center for treatment.
Police
conducted investigation and confiscated the driver's license of Taberdo and OR/CR
of the vehicle.
Abra worker hit by falling beam dies
LA PAZ, Abra – A worker
was killed here Monday when a beam hit him while they were digging a hole for
the post of a building they were constructing.
Police said
the accident happened around 2:40 p.m. at the construction site of the
Evacuation Building of La Paz in Barangay San Gregorio.
The victim
was identified as Rocky Culangan Galera of Barangay Benben.
Investigation
disclosed the victim with two companions were digging the hole when the beam
suddenly collapsed hitting Galera. His companions were able to evade being hit.
The victim
was rushed by La Paz medical personnel to the Abra Provincial Hospital in the
capital town of Bangued where he was
declared dead on arrival by Dr. Belmoure Bernal.
Trike crashes in Apayao; 4 hurt
LUNA, Apayao – Four
persons were injured including the driver of a tricycle in an accident here
Monday around 9:30 a.m. along the national road at Barangay Dagupan.
The tricycle
with temporary plate 66 2355 was driven by Orlando Dela Cruz Camat, married,
with his passengers Gemma Burgos Fulla, 45; Christine Santiago, 4; Gloria
Burgos, 65; Julia Alaban, 64; and Diana Cariño, 31, all residents of Doña
Loreta, Pudtol when the accident happened.
Investigation
disclosed came from Pudtol town headed town Poblacion when a stray dog suddenly
crossed the road prompting the driver to suddenly brake causing the tricycle to
crash along the road pavement.
Fulla and
Santiago were unhurt. Injured passengers were brought to Far North Luzon
General Hospital and Training Center in Quirino, Luna, Apayao while Julia
Alaban and Diana Cariño were transferred to Cagayan Valley Medical Center at
Tuguegarao City for further treatment.
Carnapping lands farmer in jail
BAGUIO CITY -- A farmer
was arrested here Oct. 5 along Abanao St. Police for carnapping. Nabbed was Ronel
Inso Salipan, married, of 37 Apugan, Sto. Tomas after judge Emmanuel Cacho
Rasing of RTC Branch 3, Baguio City issued warrant against him. Rasing set bail
of P60,000 for his temporary liberty.
Drinking spree turns deadly; 2 men hurt
MAYOYAO, Ifugao – A
drinking spree turned bloody in a hacking incident here Oct. 5 when two men had
a misunderstanding.
A police
report said the received a call around 8:40 p.m. from a concerned citizen that
Roy Winnad Padchig, 44, married, of Barangay Balangbang was allegedly hacked by
Marcelo Lidjawan Monchiquing, 51, married. Both are residents of same barangay.
Investigation
disclosed after community service at said barangay, the victim, suspect and
other companions had a drinking spree.
At around 4
p.m., the victim and suspect were the only persons left. A misunderstanding
ensued which prompted Padchig to punch Monchiquing on his forehead and hit his
nose with a bottle.
Monchiquying pulled
his bolo from its scabbard which was on his waist and a grappling fight ensued
until Padchig felt he was hacked which prompted him to get away.
Padchig was
wound on his chest while Monchgiquing had lacerated wound on his nasal area and
abrasion on his frontal area.
Both were
brought to Mayoyao District Hospital where Padchig was admitted while Monchiquing
was brought by responding cops to the local police station. Interview with Padchig
and his relative disclosed that they were not interested in pursuing the case saying
they wanted it settled at the barangay level.
