Ilocos Sur teacher gets 3 online jobs after DICT training

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – An Ilocos Sur teacher landed three online jobs and is now earning money after the Dept. of Information and Communications Technology Luzon Cluster I recently conducted digital jobs technical trainings here with 19 completing course on Social Media Marketing and Advertising. 

Ten of them were recognized as medalists during a graduation program held at the Lyceum de Ylocos here recently.

                One of the medalists was 29-year old Evelyn Visperas, a junior and senior high teacher at St. Mary’s College in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur.

                “I initially joined the training because I wanted to learn and then adapt a freelancing course for senior high students in our school,” Visperas said.

                The training course was held late last year. 

                Students went through 10 days lectures on social media marketing and management, digital content creation, and community engagement among others. 

They later underwent rigorous 21-day online campaign where they created their online branding to land freelance jobs.

                During the online campaign period, Visperas said not just one but three freelance jobs that dwelt on social media management and graphics design were offered her. 

                One of the companies that hired her was an Australian company.

“Noong nakuha ko ‘yong mga clients na ‘yon, siyempre ‘yong unang pumasok sa isip ko is kaya ko naman palang kumuha ng mga ganoong klaseng trabaho, aside from my regular day job,”she said.

                She further said if she’ll be able to get higher-paying projects in the future, it will open an opportunity for her to be a home-based working mom so she can be more hands-on with her two kids.

                The training was conducted in partnership with DICT Luzon Cluster I and Lyceum de Ylocos.

The Digital Jobs PH project of the government aims to held socio-economically disadvantaged and digitally deprived areas to help folks there them find work as digital entrepreneurs and freelancers.

                In 2019, around 2,000 Filipinos nationwide were trained under the project.

                This year, the DICT intends to conduct trainings in more locations, with the rising clamor of more local government units to cater to their constituents. – (With PIA Ilocos Sur and DICT reports)
