Bontoc posts zero firework- related injuries for 9 years

BONTOC, Mountain Province – This capital town welcomed a peaceful and safe New Year with no firework-related injuries thus maintaining its record of zero firework-related injuries for nine consecutive years.
    According to Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Diga Kay Gomez, the last reported firecracker-related case in the municipality was in the year 2013.
    Gomez attributed this to joint effort of the concerned offices and agencies in reminding the public to observe the firecracker law.
    With this, Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., cited the public for their cooperation including concerned offices and agencies for their intensified campaign against the use of firecrackers.
    The Bontoc Municipal Fire Station, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Municipal Health Office, Municipal Police Station, provincial Dept. of Health, Bontoc General Hospital, Provincial Health Office, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Office of the Provincial Fire Marshal, MPSPC Criminology Interns, and volunteers conducted simultaneous blowing of horns and motorcade to kick-off Oplan Paalala - Iwas Paputok 2022 which is an annual fire safety campaign for the yuletide season.
    The monitoring and recording of firework-related injuries started Dec. 21, 2022 to Jan. 6, 2023.
