Sagada awarded ‘beyond compliant’ in ‘Gawad Kalasag’

SAGADA, Mountain Province -- Municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer  Aida Abeya and Mayor Felicito Dula presented  the town's plaque of recognition  of  the municipality ‘s  Gawad Kalasag  2022  “beyond compliant’ seal,  during kick-off  of the  10th Etag Festival here Dec. 19.
    Awarded  earlier in December in a regional event, the town’s  MDRRMC  was one among four local government councils in the Cordillera Administrative Region that  received the 2022 Gawad Kalasag (Kalamidad at sakuna labanan, sariling galing ang kaligtasan) “beyond compliant” seal for exceeding  adherence to the standards for the establishment and functionality of  local DRRMC councils..
    Said plaque of recognition was earlier awarded by regional DRRMC chairperson and Office of Civil Defence regional director Albert Mogol and Dept. of Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary for Disaster Response Marco Bautista.
    The four municipal DRRMCs that received the ‘beyond compliant’ seal were Bokod,Benguet; Bontoc and Sagada, Mountain Province and the provincial  DRRMC of Mountain Province.
    The municipality’s DRRMC was then visible with the conduct of  assessments, information education sessions for barangay officials and barangay-based health workers  on their readiness to  pre-emptive disasters especially during the height of preventing the  Covid virus from spreading  in the years 2020 and 2021.
    Regular meetings were then conducted with the local officials and other municipal staff and volunteers.
In a national search earlier conducted by the national DRRMC, 48 local DRRMCs of the Cordillera passed the assessment having garnered a “fully compliant” seal and four earlier mentioned LGUs having  gained “beyond compliant”  seal  with guidelines from RA 10121 or  the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.
