Keeping the earth clean and green
(We would like to share these winning entries in the essay writing contest of Sagada municipality in the recently concluded celebration of Environment Month)
Today, our ozone layer is becoming thinner and thinner. Because of this, our world is getting hotter and uncomfortable to live in.
Many people question, why. Why are many mountains burned? Why are the waters and air polluted? Why is the weather too hot?
We, people, especially young people must be examples in keeping our environment clean and green.
We must teach our brothers and sisters, parents, friends, and grandparents to help in maintaining the mountains green and wonderful to view, and rivers to have clean waters. And later on, we still feel that the place we are staying will eventually improve.
The air that we are breathing, water that we are drinking, foods that we are eating, places that we are living in will become clean and good to see. Sicknesses in our place will soon decrease.
If everybody will cooperate, absolutely all stated above will be successful. --Maureen Malabong, Sagada National High School

Making the earth clean and green, lovable and attractive should be the duty of every person.
Some people don’t believe that illegal logging, burning mountains and plastics have bad effects on mother earth. The result of what we are doing is the greenhouse effect and the thinning of the ozone layer. If the ozone layer is already thin, we may all die because of the heat.
Illegal logging will lead to erosion, landslides and floods and our houses maybe destroyed. People may also die because of these disasters. Why don’t we try to realize the needs of other people? Why do we think of our selves only? We do not care even if the news says someone died because of landslide.
We have ways to prevent doing these illegal activities to our environment so that we can give even a little help to others and that we can also breathe fresh air.
We should also think of recycling. Recycling may be done by the youth. They could help bring back the beauty of our environment. They could recycle plastics by washing these and letting these dry and making these into decorations and other useful by-products of plastics.
We have to do what we could do to help make the planet we live in clean and green. -- Methuselah Magsino, Sagada National High School

Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere fastly increases. No wonder the weather becomes hotter from time to time. This change in weather is not just caused by natural phenomenon but also by human activities that destroy our nature, causing man-made global warming.
Humans, especially the youth have a great role in improving our environment. The lakes, rivers, seas, and oceans which are now dirty and polluted must be cleaned so that water supply would be abundant. The lands must be improved by planting trees and other plants. We also need to clean the environment to have a clean and green environment. Burning must also be controlled so the ozone layer would not become thinner and radiation from the sun will not come directly to the Earth.
Let us protect our environment while it is still early. Don’t wait for the complete destruction of our nature. As they say, “Understand and protect nature before it’s too late.” -- Mary Palos Tauli, Sagada National High School
