Gov Baguilat tells Ifugao police to stop jueteng

LAGAWE,Ifugao - Stop jueteng and other forms of illegal gambling and find ways to make this possible was the first firm order given by Ifugao Governor-elect Teddy Baguilat Jr. to the Philippine National Police here immediately after he took his oath of office on July 2 as new chief executive of the province.

He challenged the police to “end jueteng once and for all” as he learned that this remains unabated.

Sources said jueteng has remained as a social menace during the previous provincial administration but according to Baguilat, he is firmly resolved to stop this as part of his program on good governance.

“Illegal gambling destroys the moral fiber of society and this must be put to an end so the people can find ways to earn a decent living and restore the ethical and spiritual values of our society,” he said.

He added “The perpetuation of this vice can hinder our economic progress and make the drive of our people toward greater productivity stagnant so we must put and end to it.”

He warned those involved to cease their operation and the police should faithfully implement the law.

Baguilat’s order to the police was met with applause by those gathered coming from the different municipalities of the province to witness the oath taking ceremony and speeches of the newly-elected provincial officials.
