BY JULIET SALEY
BONTOC, Mt. Province – Department of Education Cordillera regional director Benito Tumamao installed last week two top DepEd officials for the province.
Assistant schools division superintendent Dr. Mary Aquintey Lang-ayan was installed as officer-in-charge of the division replacing Dr. Teresita M. Velasco who was designated as OIC regional DepEd director.
Also installed was Dr. Federico T. Martin, education supervisor I for Science of Benguet division as OIC assistant schools division superintendent.
During the turnover ceremony the division quadrangle, Velasco turned over to Lang-ayan the key of responsibility, the financial assets and properties of the division.
Likewise, Lang-ayan also turned over responsibilities of her office including all chairmanship of the different committees to Martin.
“Education of children is not the concern of parents and teachers alone but the concern of the community,” Langayan said in her speech. “All those turned over to me, I shall be just the driver.
With our new Assistant Schools Superintendent as my co-driver and all of you helping me in carrying out all the responsibilities, we hope that in two years time, we will improve the performance of our school children.”
Gov. Maximo B. Dalog said this should be a happy occasion especially that the new installed officials of the division have set a goal. He urged DepEd personnel to cooperate to be able to attain the goal.
Dalog urged supervisors to go out and visit different schools and inspire their teachers and students to do their best.
He added the provincial government was giving full support to DepEd programs and activities citing among others funds for orientation seminars for teachers, district supervisors and head teachers.
Other support he said was for a library hub, purchase of bins for storing books and counterpart for the Bright Minds Read program of McDonalds.
Source of funds would come from the proceeds of Lang-ay 2007, he said
