Barangay councilor shot, killed in Ilocos

CAMP PRESIDENT QUIRINO, Bantay, Ilocos Sur — A barangay kagawad was shot and killed by unidentified motorcycle-riding men on Rizal St., Barangay 3, Vigan City morning of March 13.
The victim was hit in the left arm with slug exiting in the chest. He died while being taken to a hospital.

Chief Insp. Maximo Taclas, Vigan City chief of police, identified the victim as Barangay Councilor Edwin Raguindin Y Salviejo, 41, of Barangay Pantay-Laud, Vigan.

Investigation showed the shooting incident happened about 1 a.m., adding his investigators were looking into an angle that could lead to the identification of the suspects.


2 cops respond to gunfire; hurt in accidental shooting

CAMP QUIRINO, Ilocos Sur- Two young police officers, including a police captain (senior inspector) were critically wounded when their fellow policeman’s M-16 armalite rifle went off accidentally while patrolling along the highway of Burgos town, Ilocos Sur loast week.

Sr. Supt. Virgilio Fabros, Ilocos Sur police director, placed under arrest PO1 Mark Austria, a neophyte member of the Burgos PNP station, for gross negligence resulting to the wounding of his superior Senior Insp. Pedro Villalon and PO3 Ludivico Dasalla.

Based on reports received by Fabros, five policemen led by Villalon was then responding to a call from a civilian after an unidentified gunman fired his gun several times in Barangay Luna, Burgos town when the incident happened.

Fabros said while the policemen were along the highway the M16 armalite rifle of Austria suddenly went off, hitting Villaon and Dasalla.

They were immediately brought to a hospital for treatment.


Mother of 4-day baby shot dead

LAOAG CITY — A 31-year-old woman, who gave birth four days earlier, was killed instantly when a gunman shot her in her house at Barangay 12, San Isidro here Aug. 12.

Probers assigned by Supt. Sterling Blanco, city police chief, said the assailant, armed with a Cal. 45 pistol, barged in and shot the victim, identified as Edna Cacactin.

The killer fled, riding an orange Honda Wave motorcycle. “Buti na lang hindi tinamaan ng bala yong baby niya na nasa loob din ng bahay,” a witness said.

Investigators said they are looking into love angle as motive in the killing.
