BATAC, Ilocos Norte – A police officer on his way to duty was killed by motorcycle- riding gunmen May 3.
Police Insp .Jimmy Ulep died when gunmen peppered him with bullets qt Barangay Bungon, along the national highway to Batac.
Police said Ulep suffered a fatal wound on his head from a .45 caliber pistol.
Ulep’s Toyota Corolla was reportedly shot with bullets from a Cal. 45 firearm from two motorcycle-riding gunmen whose identities police has yet to uncover.
Police found 16 slugs of a Cal.45 handgun.
The ambush was the latest shooting incident in Batac and the province even as crime drives of the Ilocos Norte police are exerting efforts to stop the crime wave..
Last month in the nearby tourist town of Paoay, a string of break-ins by a supposed “professional syndicate” victimizing well-to-do families in the town was reported.
Police installed checkpoints but residents and robbery victims are very worried while police have not yet arrested syndicate members.
Ilocos Norte police director Senior Supt. Benjamin Lusad vowed to lessen crime rate in the province.
