2 snatch top ten slots: Cordillera best nat’l performer in state test

BAGUIO CITY -- Two government workers from the Cordillera were among the top ten nationwide who garnered the highest ratings in the Local Scholarship Program- Master’s Degree Course (LSP-MDC) examination.
The test was administered by the Civil Service Commission for school year 2009-2010.
Besting other LSP-MDC qualifiers in the top 10 are Daniel T. Ngoslab of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau and Raymundo Jacinto P. Basco of the Interior and Local gGovernment, both in the Cordillera.
Each are entitled to a scholarship worth P100,000. The Cordillera posted the highest in terms of regional performance: seven qualifiers out of 37 nationwide who passed written and the interview phases of the LSP-MDC competitive examination process.
The other five qualifiers from Cordillera: Freddie F. Calosing (PA), Lailaine Q. Elayda (PGO Benguet) and Lucia T. Casim, Jayrerose S. Guevara, Christine D. Puguon from the Dept. of Education.
A total of 252 examinees took the examination: 38 passed while 37 qualified.
Except for the top ten, each scholar is entitled to P50,000 worth of scholarship. The scholarship covers tuition and school expenses, book allowance, and thesis writing / research assistance.
Scholars are also entitled to receive salaries, allowances and other benefits as provided by law and the period of scholarship shall be credited as continuous service, subject to the terms and conditions of scholarship and penalties for violations provided therefore.
In 1993, the Civil Service Commission established the service-wide Local Scholarship Program – Master’s Degree Course (LSP-MDC) to provide educational opportunities to employees of the government who wanted to pursue a master’s degree.
Subsequently, the guidelines were revised in 2002 to include the grant of incentives to the top ten placers in the written phase of the competitive examination.
