169
Cagayan gov’t druggies surrender
At least 169 local government officials and
employees in Cagayan Valley have surrendered under OplanTokhang since July 1.
Chief Supt.
Gilbert Sosa, Cagayan Valley police director, said three Sangguniang Bayan
members, 46 village chiefs and 92 barangay council members were among those who
surrendered.
Eight village
watchmen and 20 local government employees also surrendered.
Sosa said majority of
those who surrendered were from Cagayan.
87 nabbed
in Baguio for drugs
BAGUIO CITY— The Baguio City police office
said 104 personalities were arrested in operations from July 1 to August 31.
Eighty seven of the
arrested personalities were drug peddlers while 17 were users even as more than
half of the arrested have already surrendered but continued with their illegal
activities.
Drug
surrenderees in the city have also increased from 700 in July to
1,010 in August. Of the 1,010 surrenderees, 108 of are pushers while the
remaining are all users.
City police director
Snior Supt. George Daskeo, with the city officials bared this as he led
councilors and department heads in covenant signing against illegal drugs last
week.
Daskeo said the
manifesto is a way to show full support to President Rodrigo Duterte’s
intensified all out-wars against drugs.
Mayor Mauricio
Domogan earlier pledged support in all the endeavors to rid drugs in the city.
Officials and
representatives from the non-government organizations, government line
agencies, civil society organizations and the private sector also joined in
committing their support to the campaign against illegal drugs.
As of August 30, the
nationwide all-out war on drugs already killed at least 895 drug pushers while
more than 500,000 drug pushers and addicts surrendered in the first two months

Village
treasurer gunned down
STA. CATALINA, Ilocos Sur -- A newly
appointed barangay treasurer was gunned down in Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur on
Tuesday.
Glenford Polanco, 34,
was pronounced dead on arrival at the St. James Hospital in Vigan City.
Initial reports
showed Polanco was with his brother Emil and village chief Chris Conrad Navarro
in front of his house in Barangay Poblacion at around 8 a.m. when unidentified

1,700
druggies surrender in Abra
BANGUED, Abra—Provincial police director
Supt. Mark D. Pespes reported more than 1,700 drug personalities have
surrendered to authorities.
However, he said
there are individuals who continue to do their illegal business including those
who had already taken their oaths of commitment to reform, first under the PNP,
and the second by Gov. Ma.Jocelyn V. Bernos during the launching of the
‘Project Salbar’.
Warrants of arrest
issued by our courts continue to hunt drug personalities in Abra who have not
surrendered under the Oplan Double Barrel and the police have arrested
suspected drug personalities, red-handed with illegal drugs and paraphernalia
including marked money used in the buy-bust operations.
Earlier this month,
the PPOC adopted ‘Project Salbar’ conceptualized by the
Governor in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local
Government under Director Millicent B. Carino, which aims to help those
drug personalities who surrendered under the PNP’s ‘OplanTokhang’.
Meanwhile, the Abra
Counseling Center at the Old Abra Provincial Hospital Compound will
continue with its counseling services for the drug dependents to help them in
their rehabilitation without necessarily going tocostly rehabilitation
centers that are not even available in the locality.
In the same meeting,
PPOC decided to pursue the past administration’s PagtatiKappia (Peace Pact)

Farm
worker stabs peer
TAYUM, Abra – An employee of Bigornia’s Farm
here at Bantay, Velasco stabbed his co-employee Monday around 10 p.m. The
victim was identified as Ramil ToqueroSagot, 39 while the suspect was named as
Cris Balenira Balanay, 42.
Investigation
revealed the victim and suspect were both stay-in employees. Allegedly, they
were inside the farm watching television together with other farm helpers when
a heated altercation ensued between the two. The suspect got irked and stabbed
the victim once on his back with a kitchen knife. The suspect fled immediately
after the incident to the forested area inside the farm but was apprehended by
the responding cops.
The victim was rushed
to a hospital where he is now confined.
Jobless
man nabbed for shabu
BAGUIO CITY – Cops arrested here Monday
Edmund Musa Genese, 20, jobless for having in his possession shabu, drug
paraphernalia and P500 buy-bust money. Genese, of Liwanag, Loacan and pieces of evidence were
taken to PNP Crime Laboratory, Camp Bado, La Trinidad, Benguet for drug tests.
Village
chief nabbed for guns
VINTAR, Ilocos Norte – A barangay chairman
here was arrested on Wednesday for illegal possession of firearms.
Rolando Ancheta of Barangay Bago was collared for carrying a gun which
was found to be unlicensed.
Laoag City Regional
Trial Court Branch 15 Judge Benjamin Turgano set the bail at P12,000.
Man
lands in jail for estafa, usurpation of authority
BAGUIO CITY – Police nabbed here Monday a
certain Salvador Cumoyog, 37, of Upper Rock Quarry for estafa and usurpation of
authority.
The suspect was
arrested around 4 p.m. at the corner of Ferguson Road and Naguillian Road after
warrant was issued against him by Judge Jennifer P Humiding of RTC 63, La
Trinidad Benguet for estafa who set bail of P18,000.
Judge Delilah N
Gonzales-Munoz of MTC, First Judicial Region, La Trinidad, Benguet also issued
warrant against him for usurpation of authority with bail of P10,000.00.
Assisting Judge Ivan Kim Morales of RTC Branch 8, Baguio City also ordered him
arrested for syndicated estafa with no bail.

STA. MARCELA, Apayao – A woman was nabbed
here Monday for seven cases counts of estafa at Barangay San Carlos. Nabbed was
Josie B. Centeno, 51, house wife.
A police report said
Centeno was nabbed also for illegal recruitment in large scale. Judge Francisco
F. Donato of RTC Branch 33, 2nd Judicial Region, Ballesteros, Cagayan
issued warrants for her arrest.

BAGUIO CITY – A young man incarcerated at the
city jail was served a warrant of arrest Monday for robbery. Suspect was named
as John Joshua TimbalPenamante, 20,
miner, here of Padre Zamora.
Judge Mia Joy C.
Cawed issued warrant for his arrest with a recommended bail of P100,000.
Penamante was brought
to Kabayan, Benguet where he allegedly
committed the deed.
Army
man mauls government employee
VILLAVICIOSA, Abra -- A government employee
was allegedly mauled here by a member of the Army’s 45th Infantry battalion
based in Jolo, Sulu around 5 p.m. of Aug. 27.
Police said on August
27, around 5 p.m. the suspect along with others are having a drinking session
at Barangay Lumaba when the victim arrived to chat. The suspect mauled the
victim when a heated argument ensued between them. Villaviciosa police brought
the victim to the Abra Provincial Hospital in Bangued for medical treatment. The
suspect said he was willing to shoulder all expenses of the victim.

Man
stabs self after wife’s kin confront him
BAGUIO CITY – A man was brought to a hospital
here after he stabbed himself adter being confronted by his wife’s relatives
over a family problem.
Police said the
incident happened Aug.t 28, around 9 p.m. adding they received a phone call
from Kagawad DelfinTul-od informing them that one Elmer Estacio Villanueva, 26,
resident of Baguio Country Club Village was injured.
Investigation
revealed the victim went home allegedly under the influence of liquor and was
confronted by the relatives of his wife. Jenny Lictaoa Martin, the
victim’s sister-in-law, said during the confrontation, the victim got mad,
picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed himself, prompting them to seek
assistance from barangay officials.
Cops brought the
victim along with barangay watchment to Baguio General Hospital and Medical
Center for medical attention.

Nigerians nabbed in Dagupan City for
shabu
DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan -- Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency personnel and police in the Ilocos region caught two
Nigerians using methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu here at Barangay Pogo
Grande Wednesday night.
Combined forces of
the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 1 (PDEA RO1) and the
Philippine National Police raided the foreigners' spacious apartment after they
were tipped of a nightly drug session in the
area, Bismark Bengwayan, PDEA-Region 1 spokesperson, said.
The duo --
29-year-old Emmanuel Divine Ugochukwu and 30-year-old Stephen Samuel Anoruo --
tested positive for drugs. Various drug paraphernalia were found scattered in
the apartment while a plastic sachet of shabu and five grams of
marijuana were recovered by authorities.
The two reportedly
also invited neighbors to join them in their sessions.
Bengwayan said the
duo entered the country as students but were lured into illegal drugs.
Authorities are
investigating if the two are part of a drug syndicate.
PDEA suspects the
West African Drug Syndicate (WADS) has begun operating in Northern Luzon and
has been luring Filipina students by befriending them and later on asking them
to become drug couriers.
Man
nabbed for homicide
MALIBCONG, Abra – Cops arrested a a certain
Jefrey Martinez Gascon, 32,
construction worker, of Patucannay, Tayum town for reckless imprudence
resulting to homicide.

B Valera, presiding judge, municipal trial court Bangued, ordered him arrested recommending
bail of P30, 000 for his temporary liberty. Arrested person is now under
the custody of Malibcong police.

BAGUIO CITY – A man wanted for estafa was
arrested here Aug 28 at Lower Lourdes
Barangay, Arrested was Jose Dean Batayo Espelico,
57, married and resident of said place.

presiding judge Cecilia Corazon S. Dulay-Archog of RTC Branch 6, Baguio City
issued warrant for his arredst earlier recommending bail of P300, 000 for his
temp[orary liberty.
Worker
fires gun many times; threatens
witnesses
LAGAYAN, Abra – Charges are set to be filed
by police against a rubber tree plantation worker after he allegedly fired his
gun many times night of Aug. 27 and later threatened witnesses at
gunpoint.
A police report said
the incident happened at Lucgay, Collago, naming the suspect as Ronie Cay-an
Medrano, 32, resident of the area. The report said sangguniang bayan
member member Noel Cortez, reported to police he received a phone call from
a concerned citizen in Collago, of firing incident on their residence
around 7-8 p.m. omn Aug. 27.
Police called
barangay kagawad Jomar Benjamin who confirmed gunshots have been heard around
the residences. He said he conducted an inquiry among residents and was informed that Medrano, was
the one who fired the gunshots.
The alleged suspect
went to the residences of the witnesses purportedly looking for a friend but
upon seeing the witnesses, he threatened them and later fired a long firearm
which he was carrying. Police were not able to investigate as access to Collago
was not possible due to the swollen Palsuguan River.
Benjamin said he
spoke to Medrano and one of the alleged victims named Dionisio Cay-an wherein
they agreed to settle the incident in front of barangay officials. The alleged
victims and Benjamin were invited to go to Lagayantwon proper for further
investigation before charges would be filed against the suspect.
Farmer
nabbed for syndicated estafa
LAGAWE, Ifugao -- Police arrested here Monday a certain Alex CholinPil-o, 32,
farmer, resident of IB 110- Betag, La Trinidad, Benguet for syndicated estafa.
This, after Romeo U. Habbiling, presiding judge, of RTC Branch 14, Lagawe,
issued arrest warrant against him for 11 estafa cases with no bail recommended.
