SAN FERNADO CITY, La Union — Department of Public Works and Highways Region I Director Mariano R. Alquiza has ordered district engineering office heads in the region to undertake immediately repair of damaged roads in their areas.

He noted that many roads were destroyed by the recent typhoons and monsoon rains.
Director Alquiza issued the order to the district engineers who attended the regional staff conference held recently in Laoag City.

In attendance were District Engineers Gary Paragas (Pangasinan I), Rodolfo Dion (Pangasinan II), Marietta Mendoza (Pangasinan II Sub-District), Leopoldo Mendoza (Pangasinan III), Renato Utanes (La Union II), Andrelito Tagorda (Ilocos Sur I), Ray Elaydo (Ilocos Sur II), and Leonardo Foronda (Ilocos Norte I).

The director stressed that “Operation Zero Pothole” is a campaign launched by DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. It aims to provide smooth and good roads for motorists and commuters travelling along the Manila North Road from Pangasinan to Ilocos Norte.

“The public must be safe and convenient in their travel in Region I,”

Director Alquiza told the district engineers.

It was learned that Region I was cited as Best Region in Maintenance in 2007 and 1st runner-up in the same category in 2008.
