BONTOC, Mountain Province – Hundreds of students from Kalinga province enrolled at the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College here will be receiving scholarship grants just like their counterparts in this province.
Kalinga Rep. Manuel S. Agyao, who is also the caretaker congressman for Mountain Province bared this saying students who want to avail of similar scholarship grants should first apply to his office so they will be screened.
For this year, he revealed at least P9 million was earmarked from various sources to fund the scholarship grants he is giving to hundreds of students from Kalinga who are enrolled in MPSPC and other schools in Baguio City.
Among the scholarship grants available for Kalinga students include education assistance from the Commission on Higher Education, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, his initiatives and the Priority Development Assistance Fund.
Agyao said concerned agencies were not able to dispose funds given to them for the scholarship grants of Kalinga students.
He urged deserving students from his province who are enrolled in MPSPC and other schools in the region to avail of the grants so funds will not revert to the general fund.
For students from Mountain Province who had been enjoying the free tertiary education by the late Rep. Victor S. Dominguez, the Kalinga lawmaker revealed they will l continue to enjoy the privilege provided they comply with requirements as agreed upon during consultations witnessed by school officials.
Agyao urged poor but deserving students from Mountain Province and Kalinga to avail of the scholarship grants from his office so that they will be able to pursue higher education from reputable institutions like MPSPC. -- Dexter A. See
