‘Notorious’ brod, sis drug pushers nabbed

BAGUIO CITY – A brother and sister, long wanted for illegal drugs in the Cordillera were nabbed here Thursday evening by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and police elements at their resident in Purok 2, Lower Quezon Hill.

The suspects were identified as Willy Borce y Cabonitalla and Gloria Del Mundo y Borce who were earlier issued arrest warrants by regional trial court judge Edilberto Claravall.

Seized from them were two sachets of shabu; 189 grams of marijuana hashish; suspected ketamine drugs contained in a large plastic bottle; numerous, assorted drug paraphernalia; and two bullets for a Cal. 45 pistol.

The gun was not found.Witnesses said the male Borce usually showed it off when he was drunk or high on drugs.

A cohort of the Borce siblings, who just arrived at the area to bring the “stuff” for the Borces, reportedly eluded arrest with much bigger bulk of shabu.

This notorious cohort was reportedly the shabu supplier of the Borces.

Willy, 44, married, construction laborer, had been convicted under the old drug law (Republic Act 6425 – The Dangerous Drugs Act of 1972) and served 13 years at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

Meanwhile, Willy’s older sister, Gloria, 54, married, businesswoman and native of Abra, was apprehended by members of the city drug enforcement Unit on July 4, 2006.

She was then nabbed with another kin, Richard Guieb y Borce, when they sold a gram of shabu to the policeman who posed as buyer.

They were acquitted on August 1, 2007 by Judge Antonio Reyes of the 1st Judicial Region’s RTC Branch 61, Baguio.


2 members of robbery, holdup gang arrested

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga– Two of three members of a highway robbery-holdup group preying on travelers along the North Luzon Expressway were arrested by Bulacan police during a follow-up operation in Dasmariñas, Cavite, police said Aug. 15.

Chief Supt. Leon Nilo de la Cruz, Central Luzon police director, said the arrest of the robbers was made possible through an agreement between the Bulacan Police Provincial Office and officials of the NLEX to strengthen security on travelers along the expressway during a “strategy meeting” recently.

On Wednesday night, three thieves held up a northbound 5 Star air-conditioned bus along the NLEX. – RS


La Union cops use kalesa for patrol

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union– Due to the unstable rise of gas prices globally and the lack of budget for the fuel of patrol cars, policemen in this city along with local officials has launched a “Kalesa Patrol” (cart-riding cops) along the various tourist spots here.

Deemed to be the first in the country which is expected to lure tourists, cops will ride in a cart pulled by a horse while patrolling around tourist destinations here.

The kalesa patrol’s maiden public appearance was held Wednesday August 19 at the plaza here with its innovator, Supt. Pedro Obaldo Jr., the city police chief, and Mayor Pablo Ortega, who enjoyed a short ride aboard the horse-drawn carrier.

Ortega, in elation, said the project may be one solution to rising gas problems aside from being environment-friendly and tourist-booster.


Missing lawyer’s kid found with woman

BAGUIO CITY -- Reynold Alunday, 29, married, lawyer went to the police station in SM Branch here to report that his wife was holding their three-year-old daughter by the hand but she forgot she was holding the child. After a few seconds the kid was missing.

They looked and shouted for help. They asked the assistance of SM security guards to search for their daughter.

Reynalyn Amoga, their nanny later saw their daughter with an unidentified woman 28 to 30 years old carrying the child.

She shouted at the unidentified woman and informed her employer that she found their daughter.

The unidentified woman didn't to report to security about the missing child.and were about to leave SM Baguio when the nanny spotted them.

The child was taken back to her parents after the incident.-- Nika Gundran
