>> Sunday, October 4, 2009
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya– Isabela, the country’s leading corn-producing province, has been placed under a state of calamity due to the continuing decline in corn prices, resulting from the government’s corn importation.
In a resolution, the provincial board led by Vice Gov. Ramon Reyes said the declaration, passed upon a petition of Gov. Grace Padaca, was necessary for the provincial government to release subsidy funds for thousands of farmers affected by the plummeting corn prices in the local markets. – CL
