BAGUIO CITY – Thousands of tourists who are in this mountain resort city enjoying the various tourism-related events got a sample of the city’s cool and romantic weather when the city’s temperature dropped to a cool 12.4 degrees Celsius Monday morning Nov. 30.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) here said it is the second time in a period of less than two months that the city’s temperature dropped to a cool 12.4 degrees Celsius with the first drop recorded sometime in October which signaled the start of colder days ahead.
In the middle part of November, the mercury level dropped 13.5 degrees Celsius which made the city’s mornings cooler compared to the previous months.
Events being undertaken in the city include WOW Philippines, Cordillera’s Best Festival, the annual convention of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) and the ongoing 60th Fil-Am invitational golf tournament, the biggest and longest running amateur golf tournament in the world.
The three simultaneous activities being held in the city has attracted a total of 10,000 participants who brought with them members of their families to have a break in the Summer Capital of the Philippines.
PAGASA officials predict cooler days ahead due to the prevalence of the northeast monsoon which is brining to the country the cold winter winds from the Siberian region.
On July 15, 2009, the city recorded the fifth lowest temperature in its history when the mercury level dropped to 7.5 degrees Celsius.
