TUBA, Benguet – The Department of Transportation and Communication in the Cordillera will soon construct a P30 million motor vehicle inspection service in Barangay Badiwan here to be administered by the agency to serve as testing center for road worthiness of motor vehicles plying the region.

The regional DOTC was forced to look for a property with an area of at least 3,000 square meters in order to house facilities and equipment required for tests.

An inspection team from the DOTC central office will be arriving here this week to inspect the property that is subject of purchase prior to the construction of the necessary facilities for the region’s MVIS.

Lawyer Federico J. Mandapat Jr., DOTC regional director, said the MVIS project will allow the agency to enforce regulations.

At present, the regional DOTC and vehicle owners are having a difficult time seeking services of an MVIS since they have to travel to San Fernando City in Pampanga to have vehicles tested and certified road worthy.

Earlier, the DOTC central office earmarked P30 million for construction of the region’s MVIS the past several years but the regional office was not able to locate a lot for the facility. – Dexter A. See
