G-SPAT
Grace Bandoy
This is part II of the column The Leftover that came out the other week folks. I just can’t seem to get over these militants running for political seats. Every time I think of it, I just get tingles down my spine. It gives me the creeps.
I mean how can a leftist suddenly decide to desire a political position and run for election? Nagtatanong lang po. “If you can’t beat them, join them,” this is it?! Did they really give up that easily and said, “Heck! We can’t bring the government down to the ground, let’s put up the white flag and be governmentalists instead.”
Yikes! No way did they even had that in mind. I really doubt their desire. I think they’re up to something else and being elected may even be the last thing on their mind.
A friend asked me if I thought it was better they should just stay militant instead and stay out of politics.
I was speechless for a minute then but I told her that yes, they should just stay there at the other side of the political fence because they totally look stupid compromising their ideals all of a sudden now.
I think I will start having bad dreams of Pilipinas becoming a communist country -- the NPAs and MILF and lahat ng mga kalaban ng gobyerno natin ruling over us. Well I know it’s a really outrageous thought but like I said, it’s in there at the back of my mind.
People get into politics to rule and become leaders. Period. And when you’re up there, you have the power to impose whatever it is you want to happen. You can change everything if you so desire. Kung hindi pa kayo natakot niyan ewan ko na lang.
Okay, to make it clearer. Just imagine this - - - Villar becomes president and hands Satur Ocampo the Defense post. And Liza Masa assigned to handle the country’s Budget. Mag tumbling kayo diyan!
But there is such a thing as the benefit of a doubt. For all I know, they sincerely from the bottom of their hearts wish to be politicos and serve the Filipino people. But really, at least this is a good thought, it won’t give me nightmares….just illusions of grandeur.
And I wonder, if we Pinoys vote for them and they become leaders of our country, babatikusin din kaya sila ng mga iniwan nilang mga kapatid nila sa ‘kabila? Would the militants rally on the streets and seek their resignations too if they f*ck up as government leaders?
Or do they become untouchables by their ex-friends and lovers and brothers and sisters? Will they be spared from rude criticisms and pambabato ng kamatis?! Okay lang bang gawin din sa kanila ang mga masasakit na ginawa nila noon sa mga miyembro ng gobyerno natin?
Are they willing to face the consequences now of the hunter becoming the hunted?! I shouldn’t be mistaken for being an ass-kisser or a sucker for the government here. I did and do have my teeny-weeny shares of revolts against authorities. And I don’t always agree with what’s going on, with the local government mostly.
But being a good and law-abiding citizen I believe is always the best way to go. I know it’s the most overrated thing to say but unity and cooperation is what we really need to become a great country again.
