Realization of Pamantasan ng Baguio soon

The conversion of the Baguio City School of Arts and Trades (BCSAT) into the Pamantasan ng Baguio is underway.

Since its creation in 1998 through RA7834, the Local Government Unit has been supporting the school in various aspects.

Part of the post - World War II development of the City of Baguio was its growth into the educational center of the North because of the presence of several universities in the city. We have always catered to students from neighboring provinces and even to students from foreign countries who have come to Baguio to finish their secondary and tertiary education here.

As part of his program to promote alternative education, Baguio City mayor and congressional candidate, Peter Rey Bautista, was able to negotiate and enter into an agreement with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in behalf of the City of Baguio for the Baguio City School of Arts and Trades to be turned over to the city. A co-management system between TESDA and the city has been in place since 2008.

Through Bautista’s initiative, more than 10,000 Pangulong Gloria Scholars (PGS) completed their vocational courses at the BCSAT. He believes that education should not be contained only in the halls of colleges and universities but should also be readily available for those whose talents lie in skills and trade.

The initiative of Bautista for a co-management system of BCSAT between TESDA and the LGU is laying the ground work in preparation for the next local administrators to realize the Pamantasan ng Baguio.
