6 Cordillera schools in list: CHED warns nursing schools: Improve passing rate or close

BAGUIO CITY – Six Cordillera schools were found to be “low performing” by the Commission on Higher Education which warned nursing schools nationwide to increase their passing rates ,otherwise the se will be closed considering only 37, 000 out of 94, 000 nursing examinees passed the previous nursing board exam.

In passing CHED memorandum 14, the government agency bared 253 low performing nursing schools.

President of Philippine Nursing Association Dean Mary Grace Lacanaria said nursing schools continue to have an average rating of 30 percent and below.

These include nursing school in Cordillera like Baguio Central University, Pines city Colleges, University of Baguio, Cordillera Career Development College, Abra Valley Colleges and Divine Word College of Bangued.

"This is really needed to really ensure that the quality of nursing education in the Philippines is at par with international standards." Lacanaria added.

Governor of Cordillera Chapter of the Philippine Nursing Association Dean Ruth Tingda said, “It is a wake up call for us to see into what we can do so that we prevent the closure as announced by the CHED.”

Low performing nursing schools, she added, should concentrate on training of teachers and students.

The next nursing board exame is scheduled July 3 and 4 and the CHED is hoping the number of board passer will increase this year.
