CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga — The ongoing construction work in line with the development and expansion of the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport terminal 1, here, will be completed before the end of this month, authorities said Tuesday.
Clark International Airport Corp. Chairman Nestor Mangio told media after an inspection of Terminal 1, he expects the completion of the P308-million infrastructural improvement project by the middle of this month.
Mangio said he is targeting an inauguration date for the improved terminal facilities by the third week of June and the entry of long-haul airlines in the next few weeks, thereafter.
CIAC Director Rafael Angeles, local members of Camp Olivas PNP Press Corps and Pampanga mediamen toured the construction site with Mangio.
With the newly-purchased passenger bays and tubes, the CIAC Chairman noted that from a capacity of 2 million, the improved Terminal 1 doubles its capacity and in international airline flights.
“Build and they shall come,” Mangio said referring to the “wait-and-see” attitude of international airline companies scouting for possible ports for their international routes.
He expressed confidence that the terminal’s expansion will entail improved services to tourists and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) coming from various places in Asia’s, Central and North Luzon.
