Talks upon city traffic mess

BAGUIO CITY – Transportation issues, particularly jeepney lines like return of the old Bokawkan route, shall be addressed soon in this tourist city, Mayor Mauricio Domogan said.

The mayor said he was bothered with the thought that some students have to take three rides from their residence to their school; which is true in the case of students from La Trinidad and other out-of-the-way areas.

Saint Louis University, with a newly-relocated extension campus in Bakakeng would be the example; where students have to take an extra ride.

As to the La Trinidad to Baguio through Bokawkan road, the mayor said it is possible to return the said route.

The affected riding public from residential and business areas would have to be given consideration, the mayor said considering students for pre-school, elementary, public and private secondary and tertiary level schools pass the Bokawkan route.

However, with return of old jeepney routes, conditions would have to be set, the mayor said.

Included are installation of jeepney parking areas considering noise, and sanitation of the place.

The jeepney association manning the route would have to look for a private parking area, Domogan said. “If not, there is no other choice than for them to go express; drop off their passengers and go back immediately to their place of origin.”

Earlier, the city council met officers of affected jeepney lines. The mayor however said reports from the Baguio City Police Office Traffic Division would be awaited before a decision could be reached on the matter.
