BAGUIO CITY-- Chilean Ambassador to the Philippines Roberto Mayorga was premier guest during the 57th annual national Philippine Mine Safety and Environment conference which was held in this mountain resort city Nov. 17 to 20.

Mayorga was guest speaker during the mining symposium spearheaded by the country’s mineral industry.

He discussed Chile’s successful rescue mission of 33 miners trapped inside a mine tunnel for over two months.

The theme of this year’s celebration was “Ang Minerong Pinoy: Makakalikasan, Kabalikat sa Kaunlaran (Filipino Miners: Pro-Environment, Partners in Progress).”

The Chilean government has been lauded by numerous world leaders for the successful rescue of the trapped miners who were trapped at least 600 meters under a collapsed copper-gold site in Copiapo, Chile for exactly 69 days. -- Dexter A. See
