BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Cordillera has finished its geo-hazard mapping of the region even as mining companies in Benguet are back with their normal operations despite devastation wrought by Typhoon Juan.

DENR regional executive director Clarence Baguilat Jr. bared these adding even the tailing dams of all mines in the region were left unscathed by the typhoon.

Baguilat said preparedness and cooperation from the public and communities were big factors for the the mining sector having no casualties during the typhoon.

Meanwhile, Baguilat advised the public to inspect trees inside their properties if these posed danger especially during strong winds so these would be cut..

Two of five recorded casualties of typhoon “Juan” in Cordillera were accidentally pinned down by fallen trees.

Baguilat laos urged the public to help in clearing clogged drainage and debris and to heed geo-hazard warnings and signages put up by the DENR in areas susceptible to landslides and flooding and landfall.

He added the public should remain vigilant with PAGASA’s forecast that there would be at least five typhoons and more intense rains due to La Niña before the yearend.
