BONTOC, Mountain Province— The Department of Education will be building 29 more school buildings in this province to address lack of classrooms.
For this year, the agency allocated P20.4 million to build 28 one-storey classroom buildings and a two-storey school building for the Abatan National High School in Bauko, the biggest town in the province with the largest land area and the biggest voting population.
DepEd officials said the amount came from the agency’s special project funds which are distributed to provinces, cities, municipalities and regions needing added allocations for the construction of new school buildings.
The 28 one-classroom buildings are distributed in eight out of the ten municipalities of this landlocked province.
Bontoc, Bauko, and Paracelis will be having six classrooms each, three each for elementary and secondary; three classrooms each for Sadanga and Tadian, all secondary schools; two in Besao, one each for elementary and secondary and one each in the municipalities of Sagada and Natonin, both for elementary.
Based on DepEd records, Mountain Province has a total of 43 schools without permanent school buildings yet, thus, some classes are usually held in makeshift classrooms.
